of your rockin’

June 9, 2008

Are you an all-star of air? An aristocrat of awesome? Then perhaps you should consider showcasing your talents in the U.S. Air Guitar Championships. The airy sounds of sweet rock await.

of your friend

June 1, 2008

Video game nerds… er… players can often be shy on friends. The Wii attempts to open your living room up to new friends to play exciting and wonderful games. Unless you know them personally, however, you’re not likely to ever get to play with them so the circle of lonely is complete once more. With MapWii, you can find local friends ready to challenge you in your next race, heroic mission storming enemy lines or whatever else you like. Let your Wii get around.

of your adventure

Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) follow a rather specific formula: create character, pick a “job” and level up in 3D world. Maple Story, on the other hand combines the escapism of role-play and the classic action of the 2D side-scroller. It’s the never ending coin-op arcade of awesome.

of your docking

May 13, 2008

The Rules of Speed Docking are rather straight forward: a) remove a laptop and its power supply from a carrying case, b) connect the power along with an external monitor and keyboard, and c) power on the laptop in the least amount of time. The goal is complete when the laptop is ready to accept input. Mind your heads under those desks, folks.

of your record

May 11, 2008

Guinness has been recording world records since 1954. As time dictates, things change and with the advancement of video games (and their popularity), it was inevitable that Guinness would compile records set in the virtual community. Zelda is the oldest, continuing series on the market. And you thought Mario had problems with that damn princess.

of your plague

May 4, 2008

Created in 2005 at Goucher College in Maryland, Humans vs. Zombies is the best version of tag. Ever. The use of NERF guns and socks are some of the few weapons in the human arsenal for their protection. Campuses across the nation participate in this weeks long activity, no doubt in preparation for the inevitable. Braaaaains…

of your critique

May 1, 2008

Video game reviews are generally straight forward and filled with a lot of technical jargon on bit-depth, sound quality and general gameplay. If you want more than just the technical mumbo-jumbo, turn nowhere else than British-born, Australian-based writer/gamer Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw for some fast-talking, hilarious and incredibly frank commentary on the games we’re eager to drop our dime on. Your credit card has no reset button.

of your philosophy

April 11, 2008

Carnegie Mellon University professor Randy Pausch gave his “Last Lecture” titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” on September 18, 2007 after being informed that his surgically removed pancreatic cancer had metastasized to his liver and spleen. This incredible man’s philosophy on living your life, and ultimately to just have fun, is well worth the hour and a half of your time. Dream a little dream.

of your war

colorwars2008

Ze Frank is a crazy guy. Crazy like a fox. After reminiscing about some old camp games and a couple of tweets later, we now have the 2008 Color Wars among the Twitterati. Round one seems to have been a throw down of the classic ro-sham-bo. Obviously, @verygreenteam is the team to follow.

of your falling

falling sand

Contemplative thought is what you’ll find here. Four endless streams of sand, water, salt and oil pour from the sky as you build walls and plant seeds to interact with the elements. Peaceful and beautiful in its constant flow; you will completely lose track of time in this non-game.
